It’s no wonder the Italians were bottle jobs in both world wars. Wankers.

Used to have a mate who had 4 Scots grandparents, but he, and his parents, were born in England.
One Burns' Night, he decided to rediscover his roots, and invited people round for haggis and Scotch.
But, instead of boiling it, he sliced it straight from the pack and shallow fried it in a frying pan.
It was fucking horrible. 30 years later, I'm almost ready to try it again, but cooked properly.

As for Italian cunts chucking sweeds at pigs I know what I’d rather eat. A nicely spiced sweed and potatoe combo with some decent haggis thrown in or a fucking pizza??

Sweeds well alright. I have few jock connections going back but as a rule have a dinner indoors on Burns night consisting of of haggis (marks do a right nice one by Macsween I think) mash and sewed it’s the bollocks on a fucking cold night with a whiskey or two. Add to the fact fuck all also happens in January it’s a good excuse. Sweed boiled then mashed with butter and freshly ground pepper is a fucking fine a accompaniment to any winter roast Sunday lunch.

My Mum usually put swede on our roasts, she did a lovely roast but as a kid I'd always eat the swede first just to get it out the way, ditto if parsnips made a rare (and to me unwelcome) appearance.

Classed as peasants food and therefore exists in “leftovers” meals as a bulking agent. Peasants food is some of the tastiest food you can get and it normally consists of humble ingredients.
It’s lovely in stews but I find it a bit boring on its own.
On its own it needs plenty of butter and pepper to have get any flavour out of it imho.

My Lincolnshire gran loved her mangelwurzels. Used to mash them and boil the leaves like spinach.
Strange but true.

One of those pink and white cricket-ball sized turnips, peeled, roughly chopped into about 16 hunks and chucked into a stew = manly
'Baby turnips... thinly sliced in a stir fry.' = gay vegetable paedophilia

Can't stand it or turnip - they just smell horrendous. Love roast parsnips though.

Baby turnips are ok, thinly sliced in a stir fry.
Never cooked grown-up ones myself, but been unimpressed by them in other people's cooking.
